Information on New SMD LEDs

Our manufacturer has upgraded our plastic LED replacement bulbs to a new LED type called SMD (surface mounted diode). This is an industry-wide move to use LEDs that are more efficient while providing more consistent light disbursement. During the 2017 holiday season, we will be transitioning from the old LED bulbs to the new SMD type. 

Advantages:

• SMD LEDs are brighter, with better light disbursement, giving bulbs a “fuller” look
  
• Dimmable, to be used only with LED‐compatible dimmers (no more dimmable and non‐dimmable versions)
  
• Approximately half the power draw of previous dimmable bulbs:
• Power draw of 0.58W for E12 bulbs (2 SMD LEDs) & E17 bulbs (3 SMD LEDs) vs. 0.96W for previous type
• Power draw of 0.8W for E26/E27 bulbs (5 SMD LEDs) vs. 1.5W for the previous type
